PS 36 students attended Hispanic Heritage Event at Riverside State Park on October 8, 2014. Cultural identities have always played an integral role in the New York City life. The event highlighted the artwork of Cuban painter Carlos Mateos. Conductor/composer Charlie Martin Casal and his Latin American folk ensemble introduced the students to the history of Hispanic instruments used in the islands, with a focus on Cuban and Caribbean music. Alvin Ailey dancers joined Charlie and performed Caribbean choreography-salsa, son cubano, bachata, mambo, bolero for the students to learn. The event was historically enlightening and enjoyable.
